分散剂的作用是使用润湿分散剂减少完成分散过程所需要的时间和能量，稳定所分散的颜料分散体，改性颜料粒子表面性质，调整颜料粒子的运动性 [2]  。具体体现在以下几个方面：

1、提升光泽，增加流平效果光泽实际最主要取决涂料表面对光的散射(即一定的平整度即可。当然需检测仪器决定是否够平整,不但考虑原生粒子数目,形状,并考虑他们的结合方式),当粒子粒径小于入射光1/2(这个数值不确定）时,表现为折射光，光泽不会再提高，同理遮盖力依靠散射提供主要遮盖力的遮盖力也不会增加（除炭黑主要靠吸收光，有机颜料忘了）。注：该入射光是指可见光的范围流平说不好；但注意粒子原生数目减少，是减少其结构黏度，但比表面的增加会使自由树脂的数量减少，是否有平衡点说不好，但一般粉末涂料流平并不是越细越好。
